What Madison Is Like
Madison grew up around the railroad. The Madison Station post office opened in 1857, and the historic Amqui Station, once owned by Johnny Cash, has been moved back to Madison, where it now serves as a museum and visitor center. Much of the housing went up after World War II, so you will see plenty of brick ranches on established streets, along with newer subdivisions, townhomes, and infill homes.
Madison has two main commercial areas: downtown Madison along Gallatin Pike, and Rivergate to the north near Rivergate Mall, with the "Motor Mile" of car dealerships in between. Ellington Parkway gives a direct route into downtown Nashville, and the Cumberland River and Shelby Bottoms are close for outdoor time.
