Living in Mt. Juliet, TN: A Video Tour of the City Between the Lakes

by Nik Shewmaker

What is it like to live in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee?
Mt. Juliet is a Wilson County city about 17 miles east of downtown Nashville, set between Old Hickory Lake and Percy Priest Lake, with newer neighborhoods, big-name shopping, and easy lake access.

If you are thinking about moving to Mt. Juliet, two minutes of video will tell you more than a page of statistics. We filmed this tour to show you what the city actually looks like: the clock tower, the heart of town, Providence Marketplace, neighborhoods from above, marinas, creeks, and the green space that ties it all together.

Below, I break down what you just watched and what it means if you are deciding where to buy in the Nashville area.

Why Mt. Juliet is called the City Between the Lakes

Mt. Juliet's motto is "City Between the Lakes," and it is literal. Old Hickory Lake sits to the north and Percy Priest Lake to the south, so a boat ramp, marina, or lakeside trail is rarely far away.

That is a big part of the draw. You can live in a quiet subdivision with a community pool and still be on the water within a short drive. The video's lake shots, from the marina docks to the lakefront homes, show how much of daily life here happens outside.

Getting around: Nashville, the airport, and I-40

Mt. Juliet sits along Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 70, which makes the drive into Nashville simple. Nashville International Airport is about 9 miles west, a real plus if you travel for work.

The city also has a stop on the WeGo Star commuter train, which runs between Lebanon and downtown Nashville. If you would rather read than sit in traffic, that is worth knowing before you choose a neighborhood.

Shopping and dining at Providence Marketplace

Providence Marketplace is the retail heart of Mt. Juliet. You saw it in the video: the fountain plaza, the walkable storefronts, and the big parking fields of national retailers. Most everyday errands can happen without a trip into Nashville.

I wrote a full post on my favorite spots there: Things I Love About Providence Marketplace in Mount Juliet.

Neighborhoods and homes in Mt. Juliet

The aerial shots tell the housing story. Much of Mt. Juliet is newer construction: planned neighborhoods with sidewalks, amenity centers, and pools, mixed with established streets and larger lots closer to the lakes.

The city has grown quickly. Its 2020 census population was 39,289, and local coverage has noted it passed Lebanon as Wilson County's largest city. Growth means choice, but it also means homes in the most popular subdivisions can move fast. Knowing which streets back to green space, which have HOA amenities, and how far each is from I-40 matters.

Parks, creeks, and greenways

The second half of the video slows down: water running over rock, a wooden pedestrian bridge, walking paths along the tree line, and open fields. Mt. Juliet's parks, including Charlie Daniels Park, give you room to breathe between the shopping centers and subdivisions.

If an evening walk or weekend on the water is part of your plan, tell me early. It changes which neighborhoods I would show you first. For more ideas, see my local guide to things to do in Mount Juliet.

Is Mt. Juliet a good fit for you?

Mt. Juliet tends to fit buyers who want:

  • Newer homes and neighborhood amenities
  • Quick access to Nashville and the airport
  • Lake life without living in the city
  • Shopping and dining close to home

If that sounds like you, the next step is a conversation about budget, timing, and must-haves.
